Join Dr LUCY CHRISTOPHER and Dr ISOBELLE CARMODY in conversation about world building, myth making and all the writing wizardry that goes into story creation. Isobelle and Lucy both received their PhDs in Creative Writing in topics to do with setting and world creation – Lucy, with her influences of the natural world, and Isobelle, with her interest in the fantastical. Hear them talk about how place – whether real or imagined – is used in their writing process and learn some tips and writing wizardry to create your own setting-based fantasies.


WORLD OF MIYAZAWA KENJI: LITERATURE, SCIENCE + PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY

Masterclass with ROGER PULVERS. Miyazawa Kenji was a 21st-century visionary a century ahead of his time. How do his stories and poems reflect the issues of our own era?

Participants will be required to read one story or several poems, either in English or Japanese, and report on their meaning and significance.

This will be a forum for ideas spanning art, science and social action.

Miyazawa Kenji’s literature inspires readers and researchers in a wide range of fields, including environmental studies, food and agricultural studies, folklore and fairy tale studies and disaster studies.
